Argentina, Peru, Nigeria, South Africa and Ukraine are among the 26 countries gaining access to ChatGPT Ads in OpenAI’s October 21 expansion. The company says the rollout brings its advertising business to 89 countries, opening the channel to more businesses and sponsored placements to eligible Free and Go users.
Businesses can buy ads through technology partners or OpenAI’s self-service Ads Manager. Plus, Pro and Enterprise remain ad-free, according to the company.
More than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since ChatGPT ads launched just over eight months ago, OpenAI says. That cumulative, company-reported figure does not show how many advertisers are currently active or whether their campaigns are profitable. Its separately reported 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users also should not be mistaken for the audience available to advertisers.
The Rollout Adds Markets Across Several Regions
OpenAI describes the expansion as including 14 more Latin American countries, alongside markets including Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. CNBC identifies Argentina and Peru among the newly covered countries.
The rollout spans several regions, giving businesses in the named markets another potential way to reach people researching products and services. But OpenAI’s announcement does not enumerate all 26 new markets in its article body. The named countries are examples, not a complete eligibility list. Advertisers operating elsewhere should confirm support for their market; a neighboring country’s inclusion does not establish availability.
The total of 89 countries describes advertising availability, not a change affecting every ChatGPT account. Both geography and subscription plan determine eligibility. A Free user in a newly supported market may become eligible to see ads, while a Plus subscriber in the same country remains outside the ad-supported tiers under OpenAI’s stated policy.
Advertisers Can Use Partners or Ads Manager
Businesses in the new markets have two stated routes into ChatGPT Ads: technology partners and the self-service Ads Manager.
Self-service gives advertisers direct access through OpenAI’s advertising interface. Partner access offers a route through a technology provider. The announcement does not establish that these options have identical onboarding requirements, commercial terms or support arrangements.
Before launching a first campaign, advertisers need to check more than country availability. They also need to establish which buying route is available to their business, what setup it requires and what terms apply before spending begins.
