Instagram’s Edits app already gives creators tools to make videos and check their performance. Its new AI assistant connects those jobs. Creators can ask about past posts and get ideas for what to make next, informed by account metrics, comments and Instagram trends.
The assistant analyzes results; it does not automatically edit footage. It is rolling out to U.S. Edits users after a limited preview in June. Creators can use it for free up to an unspecified daily prompt limit, with more usage available through a Meta One subscription.
The September Rollout Goes Beyond June’s Preview
Meta previewed the Edits assistant at an invite-only creator event in June. Its September 30 announcement concerned the rollout to users. The supplied reporting gives no timetable for availability outside the United States.
Edits has several AI features with different purposes. Its official product page lists AI image animation alongside editing controls and creator insights. The new assistant helps creators interpret results and plan future posts. Based on what Meta has announced so far, it does not cut a video, replace its visuals or apply an effect in response to advice.
The feature lives in the standalone Edits app, not a newly announced chat in Instagram’s main feed. Edits is available on iOS and Android, and creators sign in with an existing Instagram account. The reporting does not identify a button or menu path for opening the assistant. Creators should look for it within Edits as the rollout reaches their account, without assuming it will appear in a particular tab.
What the Assistant Reads
Its selling point is account context that a general-purpose chatbot would not ordinarily have. Brett Westervelt, who leads Edits, told TechCrunch that the assistant uses metrics including follows, views, video retention, likes and shares. It combines those signals with comments, Instagram trends and information about the creator’s audience interests.
